KevChat – Feb. 3

Even though he was fighting technical difficulties with his phone, guitarist Kevin Schuck joined in on a Twitter chat en route to the show at the Majestic Theatre in Madison, Wis., on Wednesday, Feb. 3. It was great to learn a little bit more about Kevin, so read on!

Q: What kind of products do you use on those luscious locks of yours?

A: Sadie (his wife) & I have gotten into co-washing. Still giving it a try but I’m also really into Paul Mitchell.

Q: What’s your favorite ice cream?

A: I really had a meltdown when Blue Bell was off the market. The classic natural vanilla bean is my fav.

 

Q: Has your hair always been long? Or why did you decide to grow it out?

A: I’ve literally tried everything. Mohawk, shaved, rat tail, etc. My last hair cut was over three years ago on my wedding.

 

Q: Everyone has a favorite condiment … what’s your poison?

A: Cholula Hot Sauce

 

Q: Where’s your favorite place to listen to music? Where’s your favorite vacation spot?

A: Love to listen to vinyl in my home and I love vacationing anywhere with water and family.

 

Q: If you put your playlist on shuffle, what’s the first song that comes up?

A: I have pretty much every classic rock record in my iTunes so probably something Led Zeppelin.

 

Q: Bucket list venue?

A: Tie between Red Rocks and The Ryman.

 

Q: Farthest you’ve ever travelled for a show as a musician? As a fan?

A: Flew from Nashville to LA for a gig. My farthest as a fan was from Nashville to Birmingham to see Thrice.

 

Q: If you could tour with any artist who would it be?

A: Depends on genre. Rock probably Kings of Leon or country Keith Urban or worship Hillsong United

 

Q: If you had to pick another career what would it be?

A: I studied music and religion in college and still have a passion for the church. So maybe a pastor of sorts?

 

Q: What is your favorite thing about working in the music industry?

A: Learning that no matter how famous someone is, everyone still is a person with their own story.

 

Q: What’s your favorite song to play?

A: I’m really digging a new one Jacob Davis wrote called Sooner Than Later. We are playing it this weekend.

 

Q: What’s your favorite venue you’ve played so far?

A: That’s really hard. I don’t know if I have a good answer for that yet.

 

Q: You wanna play “I Bet You Won’t” tonight, right? Or Saturday?

A: Pretty sure you guys heard that song before I did. What are the chords?

 

Q: Who is your favorite non-country artist and your favorite country artist?

A: Country is Sturgill Simpson and all-time is Ryan Adams. I have the tattoos to prove it. #rockandroll

 

Q: Who’s the diva in the band?

A: I mean, who was the only one with a bed to himself last night … I’ll give you a hint …

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when you have time off?

A: Hands down spend time with Sadie and Flora Mae (his daughter)

 

Q: Who is your role model?

A: I mean this in the most authentic way possible. Jesus. I see His way to the best of my ability.

 

Q: What was your favorite pastime as a child?

A: Hands down skateboarding. I’m still really into it.

 

Q: How many tattoos do you have? And do you have a favorite one?

A: Haha I just had to count! 13. The pin up of my wife.

 

Q: Do you own cowboy boots?

A: I wish! Never have. I’ve been looking for a good pair these days.

 

Q: What’s your favorite meal to cook?

A: Anything Mexican

 

Q: Have you ever flat-ironed your hair? (Be honest)

A: Oh yeah.

 

Q: Apples or oranges. Pepsi or Coke?

A: I really like those “cutie” oranges and I don’t drink soda. Water, coffee and Dos Equis are my fav beverages.

 

Q: Is anyone in the band left handed?

A: I am

 

Q: What’s the best part of being in this band?

A: It’s the true friendships and accountability. We make each other better people, husbands and believers.

 

Q: Where did you learn your guitar face?

A: YouTube @JesseDeanRivero and watch his guitar faces. He’s the grandfather of my craft.

Q: What’s more frustrating when you’re trying to sleep, to be too cold or too hot?

A: I can’t stand being hot. Growing up in AZ probably has something to do with that.

 

Q: What’s your favorite food/meal?

A: Mexican. Tacos for DAYZ

 

Q: Have you ever gone muddin?

A: Oh yeah. Had to have my old truck pulled out before.

 

Q: Are you ready for the good old Midwest?

A: All my extended family is in Chicago. Love this area.

A: I’m very honored to have people want to get to know me.

 

Q: If you could have any super power what would it be? Would you use it for good or evil?

A: Would 20/20 vision count?

 

Q: Where are you doing this chat from?

A: In the middle seat of the van somewhere in Illinois.

 

Q: What was the first song you learned to play?

A: The basic James Bond intro riff.

A: I like good salty chips. Not much of a sweets guy. They hurt my teeth.

A: So fresh so clean

 

Q: Where is the one place you can’t wait to headline at?

A: The Ryman. It’s the dream every Nashvillian has.

 

Q: Who would you like to sing with if you were able to be on CMT Crossroads?

A: I’m not much of a singer

 

Q: How many pics do you currently have on your camera roll?

A: 4776. I’m currently out of space.

 

Q: Do you consider yourself shy?

A: Not at all. I have to watch what I say all the time. My filter is something I’m always working on. I’m very outgoing.

 

Q: IHOP, Denny’s or Waffle House? Pancakes or waffles?

A: Can I say Cracker Barrel? Love the Mammas French Toast

 

Q: How old were you when you joined your first band?

A: 26 years young.

 

Q: Would you rather take a Caribbean cruise or an Alaskan cruise?

A: That’s easy. Caribbean. I’d love to drink a fancy bev from a pineapple.

 

Q: Who drives better, you or your wife?

A: Depends on who has a better bun that day.

 

Q: Favorite alcoholic beverage?

A: Wine. Merlot. Beer. Dos Equis. Liquor. Jameson.

A: I feel like an extrovert but later in life people are saying I’m more introverted.

 

Q: Do you play any other instruments besides the guitar?

A: Yes, I get hired for bass and keys as well.

 

Q: What’s your favorite movie?

A: Dumb and Dumber

 

Q: Do you have a favorite song to perform?

A: I really like See You Around

 

Q: What’s your biggest pet peeve?

A: Taking a shower only to find the only towel left is already wet.

 

Q: Who are you rooting for in the Super Bowl?

A: I’m not a sports guy. So Coldplay.

 

Q: If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

A: Mr. Rogers. I’d love to hear what he has to say on life.

 

Q: Would you cut your hair for $5,000?

A: What would Samson do?

 

Q: If someone gave you $1,000 in a casino would you gamble it or pocket it?

A: Deff pocket it. The house always wins.

 

Q: What is your favorite place to eat at in Nashville? I moved here a month ago and I’m always looking for places.

A: You should try La Hacienda

 

Q: How are the roads? I’m leaving from Chicago-ish to see you in three hours!

A: The roads have been great for us so far. Clean and clear.

 

Q: Is there a certain movie quote that’s always stuck in your head?

A: It’s ok, I’m a limo driver!

 

Q: Which musicians do you look up to? Or inspire you?

A: I really like how @TheRyanAdams crafts songs. His guitar playing is always perfect.

 

Q: Are other people in your family musical?

A: Yes, dad played guitar, mom sang and brother played piano.

 

Q: What’s a must-have food and drink when out on the road?

A: I have to have morning coffee. I’m not super picky when it comes to food. I just try to be healthy.

 

Q: Your daughter has such a cute name! Did you and your wife name her after someone?

A: Thank you! Sadie came up with Flora and Mae is a family name on both sides. I love Flora Mae Schuck!

 

Q: Do you play left-handed?

A: No, even though I’m left handed I taught myself guitar right handed.

 

Q: Who’s the prankster of the band?

A: I am for sure. I’m always getting in trouble.

 

Q: Have you ever almost killed everyone in the entire band in a go cart?

A: Yes, I’m a wild animal.
